The first step in determining if you need to purchase RV insurance is by taking a close look at the motor home in question. Do you own it or are you going to be renting?

RV Insurance for Motor Home Owners:

If you own your motor home, RV insurance is advised. Many insurance companies provide discounts to customers who hold more than one policy with them. For that reason, contact the insurance company that may be handling your home insurance, renters insurance, or auto insurance. First, ask if they insure motor homes and then ask if you can receive a discount. As with traditional auto insurance, RV insurance can be purchased in increments, such as six months, one year, or even longer.

RV Insurance for Renters

As for RV renters, an important question should be asked of the RV rental company you are doing business with: Are you covered in the event of a breakdown or an accident?

Most RV rental companies extend coverage down to their renters, but there are no guarantees. If you are covered from damages that may result from a minor accident, you may first need to show proof of a good driving record and proof of having auto insurance yourself.

There are many renters who take steps to add a rented motor home to their current car insurance policy. But not all insurance companies offer this option; however, you may be given alternatives, such as by purchasing vacation insurance.

As a reminder, be sure to first speak with the RV rental company you plan to do business with before taking any other steps.

Bottomline: RV insurance is a wise investment for motor home owners and renters. So whether you own or rent a motor home, there’s no harm in doing some research. Contact a local insurance agency to ask for professional advice. This is one of the best ways to determine if you should invest in RV insurance.

Reason #1: Unless you’ve had some experience of holidaying in an RV, you won’t know for sure whether you will actually like it or not. You might find that this lifestyle is just not your thing and if you’ve just laid out a large sum of money to purchase one, you’ll be very disappointed.

Reason #2: You may be interested in driving around a part of the country that is quite a distance from where you live. If you don’t have enough time to drive cross-country, you can fly to your destination, rent an RV when you get there and spend several enjoyable days touring around places far from home.

Reason #3: Renting an RV will help you to decide exactly which size and style of RV you like best. You may decide on a motorized RV or a towable pop-up camper, but you won’t know for sure which you like to drive best until you’ve taken it out on the road. And, if you’ve never driven a large RV before, it might be wise to start off with a smaller one. This way you can get used to the differences gradually. Renting different RVs for different holidays it will help you decide which one suits you best.

If this is your first time trying to find and reserve an RVmotor home rental, you may be unsure as to how you should proceed.

Instead of heading on down to your local RV rental company, first take the time to examine your needs and wants. In so doing, you will more likely find yourself traveling in a motor home that’s just perfect for you.

Features: You will want to make sure that the motor home you want to rent can provide you with everything that you need and most of what you want.

For instance, if you are looking to travel across the country, you may want to make sure that your RV has a working bathroom, particularly one that includes a shower. Other desired features can include a kitchen, spacious sleeping areas, an eating area, as well as a small entertainment center complete with TV and DVD player. So make a list.

Size: Make sure that the motor home you rent is the right size for you and all of those who will be joining you. Of course, you will want to find an RV rental that is cheap and easy to drive, but you also need to take into account the number of people that you will be traveling with. RVs are nice ways to travel but there is nothing worse that being stuck in an overcrowded motor home.

Costs: When looking for a motor home to rent, one of the most important factors that you should take into consideration is the cost. If you’re on a budget, decide how much money you can afford to spend on a rental.

Not all RV rental companies charge the same rental fees. So it’s up to you to research several rental companies to compare pricing. This is one safeguard against paying too much money for a motor home rental.

Availability: Over the past few years, the popularity of RV rentals has skyrocketed which has caused a greater demand on existing stock. So before getting your heart set on one particular RV, you’ll want to make sure that it will be available when you need it. A good idea would be to let the RV rental representative know your travel windows upfront.

The above mentioned are just a few of the many points that you may want to take into consideration, when looking to find an RV rental.

As a reminder, it is important to remember that renting a motor home isn’t your only option . . . you may want to look into buying your own motor home. With a large selection of new and used motor homes to choose from, you may very well find yourself getting a great deal on a motor home that you can call your own.
